The IPBF is a non-profit voluntary organisation which promotes knowledge and awareness of painful bladder syndrome (PBS), interstitial cystitis (IC), chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), overactive bladder (OAB), incontinence and associated disorders among patients, patient support groups, health professionals and the general public worldwide.
The International Painful Bladder Foundation was formally incorporated as an international non-profit voluntary organisation by notarial deed on 2 September 2005 and was registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Rotterdam, the Netherlands under number: 24382693 on 5 September 2005.
Its executive office is located in Rotterdam. In all legal issues, Dutch law prevails.
The International Painful Bladder Foundation was officially launched on 1 January 2006 and replaced the former International IC Patient Network Foundation.
Mission
The mission of the International Painful Bladder Foundation is:
- to promote the interests of patients with painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis, chronic pelvic pain and associated disorders
- to increase awareness and knowledge of painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis, chronic pelvic pain syndrome and associated disorders among patients, doctors and other healthcare providers, health institutions, industry and the general public worldwide by gathering and disseminating, by any means and in any form, the most up-to-date knowledge and information about these disorders
- to stimulate international scientific research
- to promote international cooperation between people involved in painful bladder syndrome, interstitial cystitis, chronic pelvic pain syndrome and associated disorders
- to enter into joint ventures in any form and any place with organisations working to promote similar medical or patient interests
- to raise funds for the purpose of carrying out these activities
And any other activities that directly or indirectly promote the above mission, in the widest sense of the word.
The International Painful Bladder Foundation provides information on the latest developments in the field of PBS, IC, CPPS, OAB/incontinence and associated disorders through its website, newsletter, congress booths, publications and presentations

The IPBF organises projects aimed at helping patients directly or indirectly, internationally or in specific countries, including developing countries. On request, it helps national patient support groups get started or helps to raise awareness in a specific country.
Funding
The IPBF entirely depends on sponsoring and donations to fund its activities.
